Lady Clara

Lady Clara

04_john_william_waterhouse01The idea for this painting, a custom order, came from a painting of John William Waterhouse, one of my favorit painters (picture on the left).

Waterhouse - Circe Invidiosa - 92

He painted Circe (picture on the right) in 1892. Circe is a Greek mythological character. She’s poisoning the water to turn Scylla, Circe’s rival for Glaucus, into a hideous monster. It’s a long story you can reed in several books and on the internet, if you like.

That was the perfect setting for a painting of Lady Clara. She’s turning the water into a wild to free the vessel, wich is named to her. The ship is still traveling around the world today. Clara show me the exact position of it on her iPad, when she visit my studio. To me it’s some kind of modern magic.
